second-hand books | peace and quiet | ponsonby

The Open Book now has a second-hand book selection and delivery service for businesses called My Book Shelf.

You tell us what you (or your staff or customers or visitors) are interested in. We select, stock and manage some shelves in your premises with books that fit your preferences. We refresh it every quarter with new old books as required.

The books are rented, i.e., they still belong to us. But you can buy anything that you decide you want to keep with a fifty per cent discount on the retail price.

  • A differentiator for your staff. They can learn new things in their own time.
  • A source of new ideas and advice from people who have done what you are doing before.
  • Let the experts choose books for you. You don't have to come in store.
  • Try before you buy. If you like the books, you can buy them with a fifty per cent discount on our normal retail price.
  • Give your guests something beautiful to look at and interesting to do.

How it works

  • You register for the service online, telling us how many and what kind of books you are interested in borrowing.
  • We contact you to understand your physical space and check we can meet your requirements.
  • Assuming all is well, we select the first set of books from our stock and deliver them to you, arranging them attractively in your space.
  • Each quarter, we make another visit to refresh the stock.
  • You are free to change your book preferences or to cancel the service at any time. The change takes effect at the end of the quarter.
  • When the contract is over, we pick up the books again.

What it costs

Pricing is based on the volume of books.

The cost is $100 plus $225 per horizontal metre per quarter. We can fit around the amount of space you have and the number of people you want to cater for. Here are some examples:

We invoice you after each quarterly visit. On top of the service fee, we charge for any books that you want to keep (at a fifty per cent discount to retail), plus any books that are lost, or that are damaged such that we can no longer sell them to someone else.
