We are looking for another part-time assistant for our fabulous secondhand bookstore in Ponsonby.

If you love books and like the idea of working sole-charge in a quirky and authentic retail environment, read on.

BASICS

The job involves a wide variety of tasks, including setting up and closing up the store, helping out customers with inquiries, working behind the counter to ring up sales, and assisting with some of the stock processing.

We need someone for one day a week (a weekday rather than a weekend), and it would be an advantage if you had the flexibility to fill in other days (including weekend days) from time to time if the opportunity arose.

We pay $18 an hour. The bookstore is open seven hours each day, from 10am to 5pm, at 201 Ponsonby Road.

You will be given full training and you will always have someone to contact if you need help during the days when you are working.

TO HAVE AND TO BE

Some things that we think you'll need:

• Have a knowledge of and enthusiasm for books (you'll need to be kind to our customers and help them to find what they are looking for)
• Be self-motivated and disciplined enough to work without direct supervision in an unstructured environment (on your day, you'll generally be the only worker in the store)
• Be completely trustworthy, as well as meticulous at keeping records of what you have done and where things are at (you''ll get a list of tasks to work on each day)
• Be flexible and adaptable (you'll need to spot things that need to be done and do them without being asked, and be willing to do little non-glamorous things to keep the bookstore rolling, including some cleaning and tidying)
• Have enough technical nous to operate the computer and find your way about all the online systems we use
• Be positive, open, genuine, unhurried and generous.
